Happiness is a simple word yet describes a complex and often mysterious phenomenon. What exactly is happiness? Where does it come from, is it a uniform tangible thing across the board or is it a concept that humans as a species have collectively formulated in our minds? Does it depend on your inner world or is it solely dependent on the world around us?
My personal view on happiness has evolved over time. It has been a life long quest to discover what happiness means to me. From brief moments of elation upon achieving something, material or not, to inner peace that comes only from within- happiness has touched me in different ways. And over time I realized that the more I tapped into my inner world and focused on my thoughts and feelings the less I allowed the outside world to control how I feel. And those were the times that I felt the most lasting peace in my life.
In this collection I looked to the most discrete units of our understanding of happiness: the biology and chemistry of how our brains work- the so called ‘happiness hormones’. I drew upon my chemistry roots here, but do bear with me here because I did take some artistic license to make the color schemes work. If you want to directly translate the chemical structures to the art it won’t be the same.
