Chandra and unconditional love

Through the ‘Chandra’ collection, I hope to remind you of the power of unconditional love—a light that shines through even in the darkest moments.

I named this collection after my mom Chandramala (Chandra for short), who passed away earlier this year. Chandra means the moon in Sinhala, my native language and also in Hindi and Sanskrit. Chandramala translates to ‘the halo of the moon’.

My mom was my sun, my moon, and all the stars that shined light on me all my life. This she did through her unconditional love. She was in my corner through every up and down on my life, and no matter what went on, no matter what came into and went out of my life that love was there. She and my dad embodied what are known as the “Four immeasurables” in Buddhism (compassion,, kindness, empathy, and equanimity).

If there is one thing I want to leave behind for my daughters is the that they too were loved unconditionally. I want them to feel that no matter what goes on in their lives their dad and I are here for them, with that same unwavering love as the first time we held them in our arms. I hope that this gives them the strength to face their lives with confidence and grace, and handle everything that comes their way with a positive attitude.

For those of you who are fortunate to have received unconditional love I urge you to take it forward. It could be for your parent, child, sibling, partner, or your pet. That love will be your super power! For those of you who might have not experienced it yet, I still urge you to love unconditionally. Doing so will give you peace, it will heal you, and it will set you free. Because in knowing that you have the capacity to love someone unconditionally you can be confident that you are now best version of yourself.
